n/a is pleased to announce our first performance within christopher fülleman's installation, your motion says you're in the mood, a reading with celebrated poets kevin killian and paul ebenkamp, who will present work that speaks to arthur russell's life and practice.
kevin killian (b. 1952 long island, lives in san francisco) is a leading figure of the 'new narrative' movement, a loosely organized group of writers with a common project: the infusion of prose fiction with the theoretical insights of experimental poetry in our time.
he has written three novels, shy 1989, arctic summer 1997, and spreadeagle 2012, a book of memoirs, bedrooms have windows 1990, and three books of stories, little men 1996, i cry like a baby 2001, and impossible princess 2009. he has also written two books of poetry, argento series 2001, and action kylie 2008. his work has been widely anthologized and he's participated in video and theater work for abigail child, margaret crane, cecilia dougherty, kota ezawa, phoebe gloeckner, carla harryman, mickey mahoney, sue marcoux, raymond pettibon, camille roy, leslie scalapino, sarah schulman, leslie singer, laurie weeks, et al.
with lew ellingham, killian has written on the life and work of the american poet jack spicer and, with peter gizzi, has edited my vocabulary did this to me: the collected poetry of jack spicer for wesleyan university press 2008. for the san francisco poets theater killian has written fifty plays, including stone marmalade, 1996 with leslie scalapino, the american objectivists, with brian kim stefans, and often with barbara guest, both in 2001.
new projects include screen tests, an edition of killian's film writing, nude, in collaboration with ugo rondinone, and a book of intimate photographs, tagged, released in january 2013.
paul ebenkamp (b. 1983 minneapolis, lives in berkeley) has also written a broadside chapbook with mondo bummer, and has poems in mrs. maybe, try!, realpoetik, where eagles dare, calaveras, and the walrus.
